Review: Skoda Kodiaq 2021

The Skoda Kodiaq is a seven-seater SUV offering great car leasing value for money and an impressive driving experience.

Indeed, in a competitive segment, the Kodiaq deserves close attention with is spacious and practical offering in a smartly styled car.

This is Skoda's largest SUV, and it takes on the likes of the Kia Sorento and the Peugeot 5008.

It shares the same platform with the Seat Tarraco and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Kodiaq is cheaper than its Seat and VW siblings and has five seats for the entry-level trim, otherwise seven seats are fitted as standard on the other trims.

Kodiaq is a rewarding car to drive

This is an impressive offering, and the Kodiaq is a rewarding car to drive with accurate steering and a comfortable suspension that smooths out rough roads – and the responsive engines impress.

The overall build quality is impressive, and this is a well-engineered SUV which is a very quiet place to spend time.

The rear two seats are only suitable for children but there's plenty of room in the cabin otherwise. With the rear seats down, the boot is impressively large.

The boot size is a useful 630 litres with five seats, and with seven seats, this is 270 litres. However, with all the seats down, the boot size is 2,005 litres.

Engines for the contract hire Kodiaq

There's a choice of engines for the contract hire Kodiaq, the 1.5-litre petrol engine is the entry-level offering, whilst other models come with the excellent 2.0-litre engine producing 187bhp.

For those who want better economy for their car lease deals, then the 2.0-litre diesel unit producing 148bhp is worth looking at with economy of more than 50mpg.

There's also a 2.0-litre diesel unit producing 197bhp, though this costs more, the smaller output engine will meet most driver's needs.

The Kodiaq also the option of four-wheel drive and most models have an impressive and smooth changing seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre petrol engine has a slick six-speed manual box.

There is a range of trims, with the entry-level Kodiaq SE offering 18-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, an 8-inch infotainment display, cruise control and rear parking sensors.

As usual with Skoda, there are some unusual additions to the kit list including umbrellas fitted to the front doors.

Other models feature 19-inch alloys, satnav, a reversing camera and ambient interior lighting.

Of the trims, the SE L is worth looking at with heated front seats, a piano black interior trim, a 9.2-inch touchscreen featuring satnav and Wi-Fi, keyless entry and a powered-tailgate.

This trim also has an upmarket feel with a leather and micro-suede upholstery.

Sportline Kodiaq car lease

A more stylish offering is the Sportline Kodiaq car lease which has some motorsport-inspired touches and a sports-styling pack.

The flagship Kodiaq gets a chrome grille, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and front parking sensors. There's also a heated windscreen, an upmarket stereo and various interior upgrades.

The Skoda Kodiaq is also a safe car, it has a five-star rating from Euro NCAP and the safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking as standard and a system that will contact the emergency services should the airbags be deployed.

The Kodiaq has the option of blind-spot warning, lane departure warning and automatic dipping headlights, though these are added standard on the better spec models.

There's also an adaptive cruise control system for those who want semi-autonomous driving.
