Review: Land Rover Discovery Sport

Thinking of leasing the Land Rover Discovery Sport? Then you will be enjoying a family-friendly SUV that is also great value for money.

It's also a decent off-roader and has the flexibility of seven seats.

On the road, everything feels composed and agile and the seats are comfortable to make this a great long-distance motorway cruiser.

The great ride is down to the revised rear suspension system, and there's little body roll on winding country roads.

The handling has also been boosted with good feedback from the steering to ensure that drivers can have fun while behind the wheel.

Contract hire Discovery Sport

The contract hire Discovery Sport is up against the likes of the BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60 and, in many ways, it's better than both of those vehicles.

The Land Rover creation is available as either a 4x4 or front-wheel drive which is a great idea for those who don't plan to go off-roading and there's the Terrain Response system to deliver grip.

The four-wheel-drive is a strong selling point for the Discovery Sport and if you need to tackle slippery surfaces such as snow or mud, or even rocks, then this SUV will get you to your destination safely.

The raised ride height also ensures the Discovery Sport can wade safely through water depths of up to 600 mm.

Engines for the Land Rover Discovery Sport

The engines for the Land Rover Discovery Sport include a 2.0-litre diesel unit with three outputs and it is a smoother and quieter engine than the one it replaces.

The Ingenium diesel unit has a mild-hybrid setup to boost fuel economy and help lower emissions.

Fuel consumption for the diesel engine is around 43mpg, with emissions of 180g/km.

There's also a powerful 2.0-litre petrol engine that returns around 31mpg, with emissions of 213g/km.

Discovery Sport company car drivers

For Discovery Sport company car drivers, or those wanting a decent personal contract hire deal, then have a look at the plug-in hybrid P300e.

It has a 1.5-litre petrol engine with three-cylinders and an electric motor producing 107bhp to deliver an all-electric range of 38 miles.

The impressive fuel consumption is 135mpg, with emissions of just 36g/km.

With the combined power output of 304 bhp, the P300e is the quickest Discovery Sport in the range and will take 6.2 seconds to sprint from 0 to 62 mph.

The plug-in hybrid is an excellent creation and one of the best powertrains for an SUV currently available.

Cabin is a quiet place to spend time

On the move, the cabin is a quiet place to spend time and while there are seven seats available as an option, the third row will be only suitable for children.

The boot size is a useful 754 litres which expands to 1,794 litres with the rear seats folded. There's also a lot of useful storage areas in the cabin.

Interior has been well-designed, it is certainly a premium and stylish offering with a 10-inch display for the infotainment system and satnav. It's also smartphone compatible.

The 12.3-inch digital instrument display also helps to give the cabin a modern look and drivers get to enjoy lots of equipment including a heated windscreen, cruise control and heated seats.

There's also an impressive 10-speaker stereo system, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.

Discovery Sport is a safe car

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is also a safe car, which is reassuring since it is aimed at families, and has five stars from Euro NCAP.

Safety equipment includes autonomous emergency braking, lots of electronic safety kit and lane-departure warning.

Essentially, there's a lot to recommend the Land Rover Discovery Sport as a car leasing option - it's better at off-roading than most of its rivals and it is also more fun to drive than some.
