Review: Audi A3 2021

The Audi A3 is a great choice as a car leasing opportunity with a striking design and good use of premium materials.

Everything has been well-bolted together and there's the choice of the saloon or Sportback.

The A3 feels upmarket - from the built-in satnav to the widescreen digital display for the driver.

All instruments are within easy reach and are easy-to-use, and even the entry-level model gets an impressive 10-inch touchscreen and smartphone mirroring.

Audi A3 car lease models

Behind the wheel, the Audi A3 car lease models are comfortable to drive with the S line models offering comfortable and cosseting sports seats.

However, very tall adults may find the sloping roofline in the A3 Sportback slightly uncomfortable while in the rear seats, but there is lots of knee room.

One option is for a panoramic glass sunroof for the Sportback to help create an airy cabin - unless you like the dark headlining that Audi has added.

Engines for the Audi A3

Engines for the Audi A3 include a 1.5-litre petrol unit producing 150hp that delivers a responsive and sporty performance.

However, the 1.0-litre petrol engine delivering 110hp is certainly worth considering as this is a surprisingly agile engine around town.

Audi also offers a plug-in 1.4-litre hybrid model that offers slightly better efficiency and but it's also more expensive.

The petrol engines return economy of between 48mpg and 52mpg, while the 35 TDI diesel model will return 62mpg.

The plug-in hybrid offers 28 miles of battery power and the equivalent of 283mpg, with emissions of 25g/km.

Hybrid A3 has a low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rating

For company car drivers, this hybrid A3 has a low Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rating and when using a home wall box, the battery can be recharged in four hours.

The Audi A3 is also available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 115hp which is a great performer on long journeys, particularly on motorways, though the 2.0-litre version producing 150hp delivers better cruising abilities.

If the Audi A3 appeals but you would like more sporty characteristics, then the S3 which has a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine delivering 330hp is a sound choice with smooth performance from an impressive engine.

A3 is a comfortable and quiet car

Even at speed, the A3 is a comfortable and quiet car to drive with the S line models having a lower suspension to deliver sporty characteristics.

There's no doubt that Audi has created a car with assured handling and precision and the Quattro four-wheel-drive models are worth considering - though the front-wheel drive versions are adequate for meeting most needs.

This is also a very safe car and has five-stars from Euro NCAP and it includes the impressive Car2X technology which communicates with infrastructure and other nearby vehicles, where supported.

The system highlights traffic conditions and other hazards and even how long it will be until a traffic light will turn from red to green.

There's a decent list of safety equipment but things like the lane-changing system are optional.

Audi A3 to lease

The latest version of the Audi A3 to lease offers more storage space because it is slightly wider and longer than the model it replaced.

The boot size is 380 litres, which expands to 1,200 litres when the rear seats are folded flat - that is except for the plug-in hybrid as its boot space reduces to 280 litres because of the battery.

The interior design and materials are among the best on offer and the A3 delivers an upmarket feel and look.

This is an executive class vehicle, and it shows with the wide centre console and angled dashboard, giving a cockpit-like environment.

The latest version has lots of aluminium-style trim and a wireless charging smartphone pad in the centre console.

Trim levels for the A3

There are five trim levels for the A3 with the entry-level model having 16-inch wheels, a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit and a 12.1-inch touchscreen that features satnav.

Other models have part-leather upholstery, various driving modes, folding door mirrors and dual-zone climate control.

The S line has 18-inch wheels, privacy glass, LED rear lights, ambient interior lighting and sport seats.

Of the Audi models, the S line is perhaps the most impressive and offers a more premium feel, while the Vorsprung adds matrix LED headlights, a premium stereo, larger wheels and a virtual cockpit.

Audi A3 is a great car leasing choice

Essentially, the Audi A3 is a great car leasing choice with style, great handling and lots of equipment to make it a serious contender for the premium end of the market.
